Review of the Ruff & Tumble Dog Drying Coat

Ruff and Tumble Dog Drying Coat Review

Tried & Tested by Louise and her Labrador Flo

Looking for an honest Ruff and Tumble dog drying coat review? We put the popular Ruff & Tumble Country Collection Drying Coat in French Navy to the test to see whether it lives up to the hype - especially for wet, muddy dog walks.

Here’s everything you need to know before investing in this premium dog drying coat.

Who tested the Ruff and Tumble Drying Coat?

Tester: Flo – energetic working Labrador
Location: Olney, Buckinghamshire
Price Range: £51.95 - £64.95
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Louise regularly takes Flo, her “crazy black Lab”, on long country walks. Living in England means dealing with mud, rain and very soggy dogs, so a reliable drying solution is essential.

What were your initial thoughts on the Ruff and Tumble dog drying coat?

“I really love the product. It’s made from towelling, which I find works much better for drying than fleece or microfibre alternatives.”

First impressions were extremely positive. Unlike many fleece dog drying coats on the market, the Ruff & Tumble coat uses highly absorbent towelling fabric, designed to draw moisture away quickly.

Louise immediately noticed the difference in drying performance particularly after muddy walks and bath time.

What makes the Ruff and Tumble Drying Coat stand out?

According to Louise, several key features make this coat a standout choice:

Towelling Material (Not Fleece)

The absorbent cotton towelling is far more effective at drying than fleece options. It actively absorbs moisture rather than just trapping warmth.

Wide Belly Strap for Maximum Coverage

“One of my favourite features is the really wide belly strap as it it covers the wettest and muddiest part of her tummy.”

For Labradors and other deep-chested breeds, this extra coverage is a major benefit. It prevents dripping onto floors and protects furniture and car interiors.

High Neck Design

The high neck can be pulled up over the ears after bath time to help dry your dog’s head and ears, ideal for dogs prone to post-bath zoomies!

Secure, Snug Fit

Flo is notorious for having “a mad five minutes” after baths, racing around the house and rubbing against furniture. Thanks to the handy leg straps, the coat stayed securely in place even during full zoomie mode.

What size did you choose and was it true to size?

Louise purchased a Large for Flo, her tall but lean working Labrador.

“The size guide is very detailed and easy to use.”

The coat fit well and was true to size. Ruff and Tumble provides a comprehensive size guide, which makes choosing the right fit straightforward, particularly important for active breeds.

Is the Ruff and Tumble dog drying coat comfortable?

Yes, even for dogs that don’t usually like wearing clothing.

“Flo always seems very comfortable in it, even though she is not keen on dog clothes!”

After long, wet walks, Flo happily relaxes and snoozes while wearing the coat, suggesting it’s both comfortable and cosy without being restrictive.

How does it perform after washing?

Having a dog that loves going out and getting muddy means frequent use and frequent washing.

“It washes like new… at the moment it’s being used and washed quite a few times a week!”

Durability is a key selling point. Despite repeated wash cycles, the dog drying coat has maintained its quality, shape and absorbency.

Are there any downsides?

The only drawback noted was the price point.

“At £62.95 for Flo's size, it’s on the more expensive side but you definitely get what you pay for.”

While not the cheapest dog drying coat available, the quality materials, thoughtful design and durability help justify the investment.

Louise’s final rating of 4/5 was purely due to the slightly higher price, not performance.

  • Owners looking to protect sofas, cars and floors

High praise from a Labrador owner in peak muddy season.
