Rug Liners
Horse Rug Liners for Flexible, Adjustable Warmth
A rug liner gives you more flexibility without needing a separate outer rug for every change in temperature. Our collection includes liner systems from Horseware, WeatherBeeta, LeMieux, Shires and Premier Equine, with weights ranging from breathable cotton sheets and lightweight 50g layers to substantial 300g and 350g liners.
Which Rug Liner Weight Should You Choose?
A 50g liner provides a small increase in warmth and can be useful during changeable weather. A 100g liner offers a little more insulation, while 200g options provide a warmer layer for colder conditions. Heavier 300g and 350g liners are designed for horses that need more substantial insulation.
Remember to consider the fill of the outer rug as well as the liner. For example, adding a 200g liner beneath a 100g compatible rug creates a combined nominal fill of 300g. Your horse’s condition, whether they are clipped and how they are managed should also guide your choice.
Match the Liner to the Correct Rug System
Rug liners are not universally compatible, even when they look similar. Check the attachment points, neck shape and product description before ordering.
LeMieux Kudos Rug Liners are designed for compatible Kudos rugs and are available in several weights, including 50g, 100g, 200g and 350g. LeMieux also offers its standard Rug Liner range, so check which system your outer rug uses.
The WeatherBeeta ComFiTec Standard Liner is available in weights from 50g to 300g for compatible WeatherBeeta rugs. Horseware offers standard liners alongside more specific designs such as the Rambo Optimo Liner 300g, while the Tempest Original WarmaRug Liner 50g is made for compatible Shires Tempest Original rugs.
For heavier layering, the Premier Equine Rug Liner 350g provides substantial additional fill when paired with a compatible Premier Equine rug.
Consider Specialist Rug Liners
Not every liner is simply an extra layer of insulation. The WeatherBeeta ComFiTec Cotton Sheet Liner offers lightweight coverage without a traditional warm fill, while the WeatherBeeta ComFiTec Thermi-Heat Liner 100g uses a heat-reflective lining.
Horseware Ionic Therapy Liners are also available in different weights for owners looking to incorporate therapy technology into a compatible Horseware rug system. Always check the manufacturer’s guidance before using specialist materials or therapy products.
Layer Rugs Safely and Comfortably
Once fitted, check that the liner lies smoothly beneath the outer rug without bunching, pulling backwards or creating pressure around the shoulders and withers. Fasten every attachment point correctly and check the fit regularly, particularly after turnout.
You can also compare turnout rugs and stable rugs if you would prefer a complete rug in a set weight. Explore our full horse rug collection for more options.
