LeMieux Pro-Ice Freeze Therapy Boots Review

LeMieux ProIce Freeze Therapy Boots Review: The Ultimate Ice Boots for Horses?

After intense exercise, proper recovery is just as important as training itself. Whether you’re competing in eventing, show jumping or dressage, cooling your horse’s legs after work can help support tendons and ligaments while reducing heat and inflammation. That’s where the LeMieux ProIce Freeze Therapy Boots come in.

Our Brand Ambassador Jess May tested these popular ice boots for horses on Sid after cross country rounds and demanding schooling sessions to see if they live up to the hype.

What Are LeMieux ProIce Freeze Therapy Boots Used For?

The LeMieux ProIce Freeze Therapy Boots are designed to cool horses’ legs after exercise or injury. They are especially useful for:

  • Cooling tendons and ligaments after cross country or jumping
  • Post-exercise recovery after dressage or intensive schooling
  • Supporting recovery from minor strains and knocks
  • Managing heat and swelling in horses’ legs

We mainly use them after eventing and team chasing, but they’re equally effective after any hard work session.

First Impressions

Straight away, these boots look and feel premium. The design is smart, professional and clearly built with performance in mind. The ice gel inserts mould comfortably around the horse’s leg, giving excellent coverage and ensuring the cold reaches the areas that need it most.

The outer material feels durable and hard-wearing too - ideal for busy competition days and regular use around the yard.

What We Loved About the LeMieux ProIce Boots

Long-Lasting Cold Therapy

One of the standout features is how long the gel packs stay cold. We keep ours in a cool bag at events and, even after 5+ hours, they still feel properly chilled.

Finding horse ice boots that genuinely stay cold throughout a competition day can be difficult, so this was hugely impressive.

Quick and Easy to Use

After a demanding cross country round, the last thing you want is complicated recovery equipment. These boots are incredibly easy to apply and remove, making post-round cooling quick and stress-free.

Excellent Coverage and Fit

The flexible gel packs wrap neatly around the leg, giving even cooling across tendons and ligaments. The boots can also be used on both front and hind legs, which adds versatility.

Durable and Easy to Clean

Another huge plus is how easy they are to keep clean. Hay, dust and bedding don’t clog up the Velcro, and they wipe down effortlessly. We often hose them off after use and they still look brand new.

Are There Any Downsides?

Honestly, very few.

The only real criticism is the sizing range. Currently, the boots are mainly available in Medium and Large, which may not suit smaller ponies. A Small option would make the range more accessible for pony riders and younger horses.

Are LeMieux ProIce Boots Worth the Money?

Yes, especially if you compete regularly.

Considering the quality, durability and cooling performance, the price point feels fair. These boots are robust, stylish and genuinely effective at maintaining cold therapy for extended periods.

If you’re serious about horse recovery and leg care, they’re a worthwhile investment.

Would We Recommend Them?

Absolutely.

Trying to find ice boots for horses that stay cold for hours can feel impossible, but the LeMieux ProIce Freeze Therapy Boots genuinely deliver. They’ve become an essential part of our competition kit and are now something we wouldn’t travel without.
