Tried & tested by Annalee - @atypical.equestrian, here's her review of the WeatherBeeta ComFiTec Hexi Shield Fly Rug.
Who/what is it for?
This rug was to test on my youngster Rue. He is a professional rug wrecker and has not had a fly rug last more than 24 hours.
Initial thoughts on the product
This WeatherBeeta fly sheet boasts a modern, futuristic design with a lightweight material and a striking metallic finish. The fly rug looks and feels luxurious, offering exceptional quality and value.
Likes
The padding on the withers of this WeatherBeeta fly rug is a game changer. It greatly improves the fit, preventing the rug from laying flat on the horse's back. This design helps eliminate the rubbing issue common with other fly sheets I've used and ensures the rug stays in place.
Dislikes
If I had to point out a downside, it would be the Velcro fastenings at the front of the fly rug. It tends to come open easily and fold over on itself frequently. While this might look a bit uncomfortable for the horse, it doesn’t cause any major issues - just a minor inconvenience.
General comments
Overall, I am really impressed with the WeatherBeeta ComFiTec Hexi Shield Combo Fly Rug . Despite Rue’s habit of tearing rugs within four hours, this one lasted over a week before showing any signs of damage. The damage was minimal compared to other fly sheets that were completely ruined. This rug has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability.
Would you recommend the product?
Yes 100%, friends have already investigated purchasing the rug after my product test.
Would you continue to use the product?
Absolutely, this lightweight fly sheets has been a game changer for my horse, a notorious rug wrecker. It’s the longest-lasting rug I’ve had for him so far.
Is the price point fair?
While it is more expensive, especially if you’re on a budget or have multiple horses, I believe it's worth the investment. Personally, I would pay the price because this rug's durability means it lasts longer, saving money in the long run by avoiding frequent replacements. The quality justifies the cost, which is often a concern with higher-priced rugs, and I’ve found this one to be a valuable purchase.
Was it comfortable/warm/waterproof?
Rue has greatly benefited from this horse fly rug for several reasons. The fit is perfect, and the added padding enhances comfort. The breathable material allows airflow, preventing Rue from getting sweaty even in the heat, a problem we've had with other fly sheets. The 50%+ UV protection has been excellent, especially since Rue has sensitive, pink skin. While not a waterproof fly rug, the rug dries quickly after rain, reducing the risk of rubbing. This is the best horse fly sheet with UV protection I've had for Rue, and it has convinced me to consider WeatherBeeta rugs in the future.
