Tried & tested by our Brand Ambassador Jess, here's her review of the Equilibrium Quick Chill Cool Rug

Jess, our BA (@life_on_the_buckle), has a gorgeous Irish Sports Horse named Jimmy who isn’t too keen on having buckets of water over him to cool down after events or training. This cooling rug for horses seemed like the perfect solution, so Jess put it to the test to see if it really works.

How does the Equilibrium Quick Cool Rug work?

This clever cooling rug is designed for horses. It is made with clever water-activated tech which pulls heat away from their body without the mess of soaking. The breathable design absorbs water and lets it flow, keeping your horse comfy and cool. With its contoured fit covering key muscle areas and a mesh construction for extra airflow, it's the ultimate summer/ eventing accessory for any horse!

Initial thoughts:

I love the Equilibrium Quick Chill Cooling Rug! Jimmy is not a fan of being soaked with a bucket and sponge, so this is a perfect solution. It keeps him cool without the hassle, and I can tell he’ll appreciate the comfort. Plus, no more messy soaking!

I initially started out with the original cooling rug without no neck, but have since upgraded to the one with a detachable neck. Both are great, but the one with a neck provides more coverage and helps keep Jimmy cooler on those really hot days.

Likes:

Whether it’s training sessions, competitions, or arena hires, you’ve got a reliable cooling solution that travels with you!

Equilibrium Cooling Rug being soaked in water

Dislikes:

Once activated, the rug can get pretty heavy when soaked, making it a bit of a workout to lift out of a bucket. You might end up getting a little wet yourself while trying to wring out the extra water

What size did you receive, how does it fit and was it true to size?.

6'9, yes true to size.

What are the product’s key features and standout details?

  1. Water-Activated Cooling: The rug cools your horse down without soaking them. Just wet it, and it starts pulling heat away.
  2. Breathable Design: Made from a breathable material that helps with airflow, allowing moisture to evaporate and keep your horse comfortable.
  3. Contoured Fit: It’s designed to cover the main muscle areas, especially the back and hindquarters, ensuring effective cooling where it counts.
  4. Mesh Construction: The mesh parts enhance airflow and evaporation, making the cooling process more efficient.
  5. Versatile Use: Great for competitions, training sessions, and when traveling. It’s perfect for any situation where you need to keep your horse cool.
  6. User-Friendly: While it might get heavy when wet, the convenience of having a cooling solution without the mess of hoses makes it a practical choice.

Overall, it’s a solid option for keeping your horse comfortable in the heat!

Would you recommend the Quick Chill Cool Rug?

Absolutely! The Equilibrium Quick Chill Cooling Rug is a fantastic solution for keeping your horse cool without the hassle of soaking. It’s especially great for those warm days, travelling or for horses that aren’t fond of hoses. Despite a couple of minor drawbacks, the benefits definitely outweigh them. If you're looking for an effective way to help your horse beat the heat or cool after an event, it's the rug for you.

Is the price point fair?

I do find the rug to be quite expensive for what it is. While it offers some great features and benefits, the price tag feels a bit high.

Is the Quick Chill Rug comfortable for a horse to wear?

Yes, Jimmy had no aversion to wearing it.

Will you continue to use this product?

Yes, most definitely!

Final Thoughts

Jess’s trial shows the Equilibrium Quick Chill Cooling Rug is a smart, mess-free way to cool horses down after work. It’s simple to use, effective in hot weather and well-designed, even if it’s a bit of a lift when wet.
