Review of the Ariat Prelude Breech

Ariat Prelude Breech

Cost £90.95

Tried & tested by our General Manager Amy, here's her review of the Ariat Prelude breech.

Ariat Prelude BreechWho/what is it for?

I am very privileged and lucky that I can be the warmup rider for para rider Amanda Shirtcliffe when her main groom is unavailable. I was after something that would be a little bit more supportive than tights and decided to go back to a breech. Having loved the Ariat Heritage breeches, I decided to give the Ariat Prelude breech a try. These are an updated version.

After having a baby, I had been wearing tights to ride in as they were comfortable to wear. They are forgiving and gave me the right amount of support that I needed. I enjoy wearing riding tights. If you get a good pair, they are a great addition to any wardrobe.  Being super comfortable to chuck on and wear around the yard.

Initial thoughts on the product

The breeches have a good feel to them. The fabric is not as stretchy as some others I have tried, but they fit nicely. They have a good calf fit system so don’t bunch up under boots. Along with numerous pockets (the one on the leg more than big enough for a smart phone) and the large sticky seat.

Likes

The breeches fit well and gave me good support in the saddle. They look smart and feel like they would stand up to a large amount of time in the saddle. They were comfortable to wear and didn’t give me the feeling of wanting to take them off as soon as I could.

The waist band is a nice height finishing slightly higher at the back and sitting below my belly button at the front. They have a nice fastening and didn’t dig in anywhere.

Dislikes

The grip seat is quite strong, especially on the car seats. There was also a seam that runs down the front of your thigh which took a little getting used to but didn’t affect me after I had forgotten about it.

Sizing wise they were a little tight, the first time I put them on I felt they could be too snug. This also could be that I am used to wearing tights which are much looser. However, once I had them on for a little while they were more than comfortable.

Would you recommend the product?

Yes, if you are wanting to transition into a breech for the price point you are getting a good product that is very well made.

Would you continue to use the product?

Yes, now I have got used to them.

Is the price point fair?

They are just as comparable to some of my more expensive breeches that I used to have (pre-baby). The navy is a great colour that is easy to pair with any other colour.

Was it comfortable/warm/waterproof – etc?

They are a good weight of fabric too – you might get a but hot in the summer, but they are made from a good study fabric.
