This type of bit, also known as a continental bit, operates by lifting the bit in the horse's mouth similarly to a traditional gag but with less severity. The reins can be attached to the snaffle ring or the lower ring for increased poll pressure and leverage. It is also possible to use two reins or roundings attached to a single rein with this bit to maintain the correct contact on the snaffle ring without poll pressure when necessary. An anatomical brass alloy lozenge in the center helps distribute even pressure over both the tongue and bars of the mouth, promoting mouthing and contact. The blue sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes easily, creating a warming sensation and a sweet taste in the horse's mouth, which helps the horse accept the bit. Please note that the blue color will fade with use, which is normal. This bit is ideal for those who need additional braking power when jumping or performing fast work.
