Review of the Unisex Mountain Horse Galaxy Parka

Tried & tested by Jacqueline, our Warehouse Operative who is an avid walker, gardener and general lover of the great outdoors. Here's her review of the Mountain Horse Galaxy Parka. 

Jacqui spends most of her free time outdoors either on long walks or tending to her beloved allotment. She also helps care for her friend's horses and needed a winter coat that was warm, waterproof and not too bulky. 

Who and what is the product for?

I wear this winter jacket for almost every casual activity. Whether I'm walking the dog early in the morning, commuting to and from work, gardening, taking the dog out again, or heading out for training or a stroll, it’s my go-to choice.

Initial thoughts on the product:

I usually gravitate toward the bigger brand coats, but this one has proven me wrong! At first, it didn’t look all that appealing online, and I almost overlooked it. However, when I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised by how lightweight and comfortable it felt. I ended up needing a smaller size than usual, and for some reason, it just made me feel good from the moment I put it on!

Likes:

I found all the pockets incredibly practical, with plenty of deep compartments ideal for gloves, poo bags horse teats etc. One pocket, located just outside the main zipper, was perfect for my phone as I could easily grab it without losing any heat. The coat is both warm and waterproof, and it’s been tested in all kinds of weather. The flaps at the back open for added comfort, whether I'm riding or just sitting. Overall, it’s been extremely useful.

Dislikes:

The description mentions reflective details, but in practice, the hi-vis elements fell short of expectations. I would have appreciated more effective reflectivity, especially given the dark mornings and shorter days when visibility is crucial. Other than that, I have no complaints.

What size did you receive, how does it fit and was it true to size?

I received a size medium. I would normally have a large, however, as this is a unisex coat the sizing is larger than average. 

Would you recommend the product?

Yes I definitely would recommend this product as it is an incredibly practical jacket.

Would you continue to use the product?

Absolutely I am continuing to use this product, particularly as it is such a warm yet lightweight winter coat. You feel completely cosy without it being bulky or restrictive. 

Is the price point fair?

If you compare the functionality to similar riding coats, I think this is a fair price.

Was it comfortable/warm/waterproof?

It is warm and waterproof. I have thoroughly put the coat through its paces in the most challenging weather conditions whilst walking my dog , and it hasn't let me down. 

Overall Impression

I cannot recommend this Mountain Horse coat highly enough. If you’re looking to keep to keep warm and comfortable in the saddle or out on walks it is excellent and shielding you from the elements without restricting your movement.
