Tried & Tested: Review of the Evoke Ladies Performance Riding Leggings
Cost: £59.99
Tried & tested by Lucy from our Customer Service Team. Here's her review of the Evoke Leggings
An avid horse rider, she enjoys drag hunting and hacking hunters through the countryside during the off-season. At just 5'2" and riding big, fit horses, Lucy knows firsthand the importance of staying comfortsble and secure in the saddle.
Who and what is the product for?
The product is for me. I was in need of a new pair of riding leggings for everyday use and these caught my eye being a new brand. I don’t currently own my own horse after losing mine two years ago but I’m very lucky to be given riding privileges on three wonderful geldings owned by a friend.
We mostly hack but depending on the season and what the boys are getting up to, the rides can go anywhere from 45mins to a good few hours so comfort and performance are key even though I don't ride everyday.
Initial thoughts on the product:
I really like the look of the leggings, they do have a very slight shine to them compared to other brands I have tried due to the performance sport fabric but it’s not over the top at all. They feel super soft too and are breathable without going see through! They feature Evoke branding on the pocket and back which is big but remains subtle.
The leggings are available in both full seat and knee grip. I personally chose the knee grip option because I like to wear my riding leggings on days where I’m dressed down and find full seat can look out of place in a normal ‘non horsey’ setting. I found the knee grip provides just the right level of grip and I love that it is still sticky even now I’ve washed the leggings a few times.
Likes:
love the waistband on these leggings! It’s a really high, thick waist band and is really flattering and more importantly it doesn’t roll down thanks to the sticky Evoke branding inside!
One of the features I really appreciated was the really deep phone pocket. I always have my phone in my pocket especially if we are out for a long time or going a considerable distance more for safety than anything. The boys are all between 16.2hh and 17hh, and being 5ft 2, I really don’t need to be getting off to find my phone if it decides to shimmy out of my pocket, which wasn’t a worry with these leggings at all.
I really like the performance fabric too. Let’s be honest ladies - not all of us have a thigh gap and sometimes rubbing can thin the fabric over time or cause bobbling and there is nothing worse than realising your favourite leggings have a hole in the crotch. There is no risk of that with this fabric, and I think the leggings will stay in tip top condition for a very long time.
Dislikes:
Honestly, it’s hard to find dislikes about these leggings. I’m pretty short, and the length is perfect for me without any bunching behind the knees, so I could see how they might be a little short for taller riders. I also found the fabric a little slippery on the saddle. Nothing major or concerning but if you have a horse who likes to throw some shapes, I would suggest purchasing the full seat option.
What size did you receive, how does it fit and was it true to size?
I’m between a UK14 & UK16 and could have gotten away with a Large or XL. I tried both on and decided to go for the Large as I found they fitted me best. For an equestrian brand, I find the sizes really good for a range of body shapes. It can be really difficult to find clothes in general that will fit your size 16 body as well as your yard friends size 8, but these really do deliver and I have gotten so many compliments wearing them.
What are the product’s key features and standout details?
Definitely the deep phone pocket, the silicone knee grip and the thick waistband. I love the unique, sticky Evoke branding on the inside that holds the waistband in place.
Would you recommend the product?
I would recommend the product to anyone looking for a pair of everyday riding leggings.
Would you continue to use the product?
Absolutely, I honestly love these leggings. I wear them and wash them at least twice a week.
Is the price point fair?
At £59.99 for both the knee patch and full seat leggings, I think the price point is fair. Often, brands will charge a little extra for the full seat but it’s nice that Evoke haven’t chosen to do so as it think it will ensure riders get the design they want rather than the one they can afford
Do you find them comfortable?
So, so comfortable, flattering and breathable. I really do love these leggings.
Overall Impression
I think as equestrians, we tend to stick to what we know when it comes to brands, and we can often end up missing out on great products because the brand isn’t one we are familiar with or we have seen being promoted on social media by big names, but these leggings will hold their own against your favourite brands and have obviously been designed with function in mind.
