Who are the Flex-On Safe-On Stirrups for?

These are smart safety stirrups designed for riders who want confidence in the saddle without compromising on style or performance. They are suitable across multiple disciplines including eventing, hunting and dressage, making them a really versatile all-rounder.

They are ideal for anyone wanting added safety with a quick release mechanism, as well as riders who need extra ankle support thanks to the inclined tread and shock absorbing design. There is also a children’s version available, making them a great stirrup for younger riders needing the same level of safety and support.

What were your first impressions of the stirrups?

Smart blend of safety, comfort and durability without compromising the look of the stirrup. The wide grippy foot bed is great for keeping your foot in a central position without minimal movement. The shock adsorption is great for helping support your ankles. Can also be used across disciplines, eventing, hunting, dressage etc, really versatile and a good all rounder.

What are the key features?

Safety and design

I love the safety aspect of these stirrups, having being previously dragged after a fall, I know the importance of having the best safety gear you can get and these stirrups give me the confidence that I can get my feet out when needed. Having a damaged ankle from a fall 3 years ago, often my ankle can be sore but with the shock adsorbing benefits these stirrups offer, I can spend more time in the saddle.

How did they perform in the saddle?

This is where they really come into their own. The safety aspect gives me real peace of mind, knowing I can release my feet quickly if needed. On top of that, they’re super comfortable making them perfect for long hacks and or high intensity jumping sessions.

What did you like most?

The safety features were a big highlight, along with the comfort and support they offer. The shock absorption really helps with sore ankles and the wide footbed keeps your position stable.

I love how versatile they are, working across multiple disciplines and different saddles.

Were there any downsides?

Only dislike is that they can be a slight pain to clean underneath around the shock adsorbers, it's just a bit fiddly trying to give them a deep clean. I would recommend a tooth brush to reach into all of the gaps.

Are they worth the price?

Yes, given all the features and benefits that are included in these stirrups.  At £249.95 these are definitely a premium product, but the price point is fair given the safety, comfort and durability they offer.

When it comes to safety equipment, it is not something riders want to compromise on.

Would you recommend them?

Yes! Absolutely, these are my second pair for my dressage saddle. I've already had a pair for over 2 years now and they have been fantastic.

How is the fit and sizing?

These stirrups are designed for adult riders and feature a generous wide footbed which offers a secure and comfortable fit.

Which Flex-On tread did you choose and why?

I chose the Inclined Ultra Grip tread on the Flex-On Safe-On stirrups for maximum stability and comfort in the saddle.

The inclined design helps keep my heel in the correct position, improving balance and supporting proper leg alignment, while the ultra grip surface gives excellent traction to prevent my foot from slipping.

This combination makes it a great choice for riders looking for extra security, better foot positioning and added confidence across disciplines like dressage, eventing and everyday riding.

What customisation options are available for Flex-On Safe-On stirrups?

Although I opted for a classic all-black Flex-On, Safe-On stirrups can be customised with a range of Flex-On magnets and colour options, allowing you to match them perfectly to your personal style or tack.

Final Verdict

If you are looking for stirrups that combine safety, comfort and performance, the Flex-On Safe-On Stirrups are hard to beat.
