Dinky Diaries: An Update from the Dinky Ponies
At Country & Stable, we feel incredibly lucky to support Sarah and her wonderful herd of Dinky Ponies. Throughout the year, we’ll be catching up with Sarah to follow life on the yard sharing how the ponies are getting on, the little moments that make each day special and what they need to stay happy and healthy.
In this edition of Dinky Diaries, Sarah reflects on a long, muddy winter, introduces the much-loved Poppy and shares the everyday essentials she relies on to keep her herd comfortable and thriving.

Winter on the Yard: How the Dinky Ponies Have Been Coping
This winter has been a particularly muddy one, but the Dinky Ponies have taken it all in their stride with their usual resilience and charm.
Sarah has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, making sure each pony stays warm, dry and comfortable through the wettest months with cosy bedding, warm, waterproof rugs and, of course, plenty of love and attention.
“Winter has definitely kept me busy!
Like most pony owners we’ve been battling endless mud and rain this year. The Dinks have coped really well though – they’re hardy little characters and seem to take the weather in their stride.
They’re very lucky to have stables to come into at night, which gives them some respite from the weather and allows them to properly dry off.”
Even with the challenges of winter, the ponies have stayed happy and well. As spring begins to appear on the horizon, there’s a quiet sense of anticipation for brighter, drier days ahead.

Pony Spotlight: Meet Poppy
Every edition of Dinky Diaries shines a spotlight on one of the ponies, and this time we’re delighted to introduce the gentle and much-loved Poppy.
Poppy is truly special. With her calm, intuitive nature, she brings a sense of peace wherever she goes. She has a remarkable way of connecting with people, particularly those who benefit from a quieter, more soothing presence.

“Poppy is incredibly special to me. She has such a calm and knowing personality which really makes her one of a kind. She isn’t fond of loud noises or sudden movements, but when she’s around people who are calm and gentle she absolutely thrives.
She always seems to know exactly how to behave, which makes her such a wonderful pony to have around. Poppy really is at the heart of what we do.”
Poppy brings comfort and joy to everyone she meets, perfectly reflecting the kindness and connection that the Dinky Ponies share with people every single day.

Product the Dinkies Love: Horseware Rug Liners
Keeping ponies comfortable during winter often means adapting to ever-changing weather conditions.
One product Sarah has been relying on this season is the Horseware rug liner system.
“The Horseware rug liners have been a brilliant addition to our winter routine. They make it easy to adjust the warmth of a rug without needing to change the whole outer rug.
The lightweight liners are simple to attach, making it easy to add or remove layers depending on the temperature. They also wash really well, which is important when you’re dealing with muddy ponies.”
For busy days on the yard, this kind of flexibility makes all the difference, helping ensure the ponies stay comfortable whatever the weather brings.
From the Dinky Wishlist
As the seasons begin to change, there are a few items from the Dinky Pony Wishlist that would make a real difference to life on the yard.
One of the most important is Dodson & Horrell Lami-Free.
Georgie can be prone to laminitis, which becomes more of a concern as spring approaches and grass sugar levels begin to rise.
“Georgie can suffer with laminitis and this becomes a bigger risk as we head into spring. Lami-Free helps reduce the risk and keep her comfortable.”
Sarah is also hoping to add a few Stubbs Stable Hooks to the yard.
“With Evie’s new stable, a little extra storage for headcollars and rugs would really help keep things tidy.”
Small additions like these help keep everything organised and allow daily routines to run that little bit more smoothly.
Dinky Picks: Sarah Recommends
When you spend every day outdoors caring for ponies, having reliable, comfortable footwear becomes essential.
Sarah’s top recommendation from the yard is a pair of Le Chameau wellies - particularly the Vierzonord Neoprene Lined.
“When you’re outside every day caring for ponies, especially in muddy winter fields, having comfortable and reliable footwear makes such a difference.
These are the most comfortable wellies I’ve ever owned. I’m in them day in and day out and they fit like a glove.”
Durable, waterproof and incredibly comfortable, they’re perfect for long days spent caring for the ponies. Read Sarah's full review of her Le Chameau Ladies Wellies right here!
