Review of Horse Shampoos

Review of Horse Shampoos

Three of our staff members reviewed some of the best selling of horse shampoos. Bathing of horse in variable weathers can be challenging so it is important to ensure you have the most effective shampoo to help reduce time. With so many on the market we put three stain removing shampoos to the test.

Carr & Day & Martin Stain Removing Shampoo

RRP £11.95

Gemma's comments:

This shampoo was tested on Wizard after he had been worked on a warm day. The packaging of the bottle looks very smart, the shiny bottle makes it look more expensive than it is. With a pop down cap it produces an easy to use product. You can easily squeeze out the shampoo in a steady flow allowing you to control the amount.

The shampoo is really easy to use. You can apply directly to the coat and work it in to create a good lather. We used cold water, it frothed up nicely and washed out with little effort. It was hard to find any dislikes with this horse shampoo, I am really pleased with it.

The product worked very well, Wizard was super shiny after use therefore a top recommendation. The consistency of the horse shampoo made it easy to wash out. We regularly go out competing and I would use this shampoo for preparation. It turned out to be better and more preferable to the normal animal shampoo used. As a equine shampoo the price is really reasonable and you don't need a lot to get a thorough clean.

Supreme Products Blue Shampoo

RRP £10.95 - £17.95

Liz's comments:

This shampoo works on all coats but is aimed at horses which are grey or dual coloured. This product is ideal for use on my pony Puzzle as he is a light skewbald with a large amount of white. Firsts thoughts on this product are Wow, it is really vibrant blue! I was super excited to open the bottle and bath my pony!

A delicate, fresh fragrance with a creamy lather was created once it had been added to the water. As soon as you apply the product to your horse’s coat you can see their colour pop, especially the grey. My pony is dual coloured and the contrast and definition between his dark chestnut patches and grey looked stunning after his bath. His mane and tail were silky smooth and detangled and his previously ‘yellow’ tail was gleaming.

There weren’t many negatives to using this product. However, to be really picky, I would say the stain removal was not as good as I had hoped. The really tough grass stains on his grey coat required a couple of treatments before they became really clean and white.

Currently I don't compete my pony, but this would be my go-to product if I did show him as it gives them the WOW factor after use! I will certainly be recommending this to friends. I would 100% recommend this blue shampoo and will be a staple product in my grooming box. As one of the higher priced horse shampoos available on the market I feel the price point is fair as a little goes a very long way!

NAF Show Off

RRP £8.95

Emelya's comments:

I used this on my Knabstrupper Loppy, being a coloured he has flecks of white all over and I wanted a shampoo which would really help bring this out. First off this shampoo certainly smells divine! As a regular user of NAF products and enjoy the variety you can purchase, I had never tried this shampoo so I couldn't wait to use it.

I love how the bottle has been designed for easy application. When applied straight onto my horses coat it lathered up easily with the cold water. As this shampoo has a violet undertone to it this really helped neutralize the yellow tones and you could see it working straight away. I really couldn't find any dislikes.

This shampoo would be highly recommend, especially for light coloured horses because it brought the coat up very light and clean. As a more budget friendly shampoo this has proved to be a very good! I will definitely continue to use as feel the competitive price means I would be happy to spend this on a purple horse shampoo and would be worth it to get a equine designed product.
