Review of Best Horse Schooling Boots

Tried & tested by our Digital Merchandiser Emelya, here’s her review of the best schooling boots for horses. She tested all these horse boots on her horse Loppy.

Woof Wear Training Wrap

Cost £34.95Best Schooling Boot Woof Wear Training Wrap

Initial thoughts on the product

"The boots look smart and seemed flexible while offering support. The option of being able to coordinate colours to match other attire makes these support boots desirable and fun. However, when inspecting the boots further the Velcro didn’t appear hardwearing."

Likes

The boots were easy to put on; being light and flexible helped mould to Loppy’s leg and they didn’t move while I was riding. The boots also seemed to offer support for Loppy’s legs.

Dislikes

My only dislike for this boot would be that the Velcro is exposed in areas. Therefore, when riding within a carpet fibre surface arena the fibres do catch and stick to the Velcro. I noticed also that the boot did retain some heat.

Price

I feel the price is fair considering the support this boot offers.

LeMieux ProShell Brushing Boots

Cost £42.95Best Schooling Boot LeMieux ProShell Brushing Boots

Initial thoughts

"Firstly, I noticed how lightweight these boots were for the amount of protection they offer. The PVC outer gives you the impression that these brushing boots will last and protect your horse’s legs for the long term."

Likes

Very easy to put on. The Velcro is strong, and the ventilation kept Loppy’s legs cool whilst schooling. The boots did offer his legs protection from strikes.

Dislikes

The sizing is the only downside to these boots; they could be a bit wider to achieve a better fit.

Price

I feel the price of these boots is spot on, it reflects the features of the boots and they do seem extremely durable, giving the impression they would last for a number of years.

Eskadron Flexisoft Tendon Boots

Cost £55.95Best Schooling Boot Eskadron Flexisoft Tendon Boots

Initial thoughts

"A great boot for schooling, both on the flat and when jumping. They are lightweight, easy to clean and first impressions indicate they are hard wearing."

Likes

Easy to fit, didn’t move whilst schooling and they give support to the tendons. The fastening made them easy to secure the fit.

Dislikes

They don’t have any form of ventilation, so I found the neoprene did make Loppy’s legs sweat a little.

Price

I would say the price on these boots is a little higher than I would have liked for a schooling boot, but reasonable for a show jumping competition boot.

LeMieux Ultra Mesh Snug Boot

Best Schooling Boot LeMieux Ultra Mesh Snug BootCost £57.50

Initial thoughts

"These are very fancy and packed with technology! I would say these are an all-in-one type boot, offering the support of a training sport wrap boot plus the protection of a tendon and brushing boot."

Likes

The mesh material has a very soft feeling, making it easier to fit the boot. The fastenings made for a secure fit and was easy to select the correct tightness. The boots didn’t move, and they kept Loppy’s legs cool and protected.

Dislikes

The only dislike I have for these boots would be if you had a horse with a wider leg you may struggle for the fit.

Price

A higher price to other boots on the market, but the features and quality of these boots justifies the price point.

Conclusion: What’s your favourite and why?

My favourite boot from this test and the boot I would 100% recommend would be the LeMieux Ultra Mesh Support Boot. Although the highest price point out of all the boots tested above, the technology, quality and benefits of the boot justify the cost. The boot is very easy to use and has ample ventilation and support for your horses’ legs when schooling. I was looking for a boot to offer support but that would also keep Loppy’s legs cool as it’s important for me to feel I am helping his legs when doing harder and faster schooling.
